Air quality improvement through sustainable cooking technology solutions
The major component contributing to indoor air pollution in most rural and urban migrant communities is the use of fuelwood for cooking. Users remain unaware of the long term health implications and accept it as a way of life. The ill effects multiply by many times when the use of firewood is combined with reduced ventilation within the house. There is a lack of awareness both on the health aspects and sustainable alternatives within end users. This when combined with the age old culture of firewood cooking creates a hostile environment for users to shift to sustainable cooking. Hence there is a need for a variety of solutions that can be customized for different cooking practices of the country which is addressed through the project.
