Developing a thriving ecosystem for decentralized weaver clusters through clean energy and efficient solutions.
The traditional hand loom, with its demanding combined hand-leg movement, is a cause of stress and fatigue to weavers. In addition, weavers are disincentivized to continue practicing this generations-old craft given competition from power looms and giant textile mills, imported cotton goods, increased price of yarn, and insufficient supply of quality raw cotton, all of which have reduced their earnings over the years. The invention of the efficient loom, developed by NRG Solutions, a technical partner of Selco Foundation, has brought about great relief to the hand loom community. The loom combines the four limbs movement of a traditional loom into a single operation, enhancing the productivity of weavers, which in turn increases their earnings while reducing the drudgery of weaving. Weavers living in areas of erratic power supply, interested in moving from a manual hand loom to a power loom, now have an option to do so with this solar powered green loom.
