Alleviating the strenuous and hazardous thigh reeling manual process of yarn reeling with an energy-efficient machine
Two machines have been developed by Selco Foundation’s technical partner to substitute the hazardous manual work of ladies reeling yarn on their thighs as a livelihood. These machines cater to reeling, spinning and twisting of silk yarn which contributed to enhanced quality of the yarn. In addition to the elimination of the manual drudgery involved and improving the quality of silk yarn achieved, it helps in increasing the productivity of the efforts thereby increasing the income earning level of the yarn maker. Moreover, powering these machines with a renewable source of energy like solar is a bonus to those reelers located in areas with erratic electricity supply.
