Improved temporary housing solutions for migrant settlements via energy efficiency measures
The typical house occupied by a low income urban migrant that is made out of a tarpaulin sheet fitted on top of a framework made out of casuarina/ bamboo poles leaves no channels for ventilation and lighting except a small opening for a door. This creates an unhygienic and unhealthy living environment, the ill effects of which increases exponentially when combined with firewood cooking in the same space; thus reducing the efficiency of the space. The project aims to develop various housing solutions for low income migrants that can elevate their quality of life by improving the efficiency of their built environment thus reducing their dependability on artificial sources of energy for lighting and ventilation.
